“You’ve got to have a J*O*B to get with me”… “I want a roughneck, gotta have a roughneck” two very commonly used phrases by women. Some even being so bold as to sing the phrases aloud, raising the praises of their friends and other females within earshot. “I heard that”, “I know that’s right chile!”
But when Keisha tells Amanda “well he has to have a career with benefits, a six figure salary, a 401k and drive a foreign car”. The music stops, plates are dropped and instead of praises we hear grunts and moans of wounded cows.
WHY?! Why can’t she want a man with a purpose, direction and means? Why is it ok to like, want, and need a thug, but not ok to desire that Mandingo who has conquered the world taken no prisoners and set up a palace for his beautiful Queen Bee? Ok I just drifted into my own fantasy but you get what I’m saying. Don’t you?
Seriously if someone could explain to me why many times settling, lowering standards and just not giving a damn equates to “keeping it real”. Honestly being true to yourself and knowing what you want is “keeping it real”. Don’t just go with the flow of your peers in order to dodge evil stares and harsh words like snob, stuck up, high maintenance, or gold digger.
Personally I like them all so it really makes no difference to me. Well I guess I can truly say that because I am married now. But ladies feel free to like who you like. As long as he is not thugging upside your head, stealing from your bank account, starting illegal businesses and scams, is making his money legitimately and taking care of his kids (all of them) (awl man I did not have to say that) then I wish you much love and happiness regardless of who you like.
While we are on the subject of love, “what do the lonely do at Christmas; what do they do? I will ponder for a bit and get back to you on that.

She likes gold!!!! I have retyped this thing a million times because I was trying to stay on point, but I can't.
Netta, those are catchy tunes that appeal to a woman's sense of hurt, desire, and reality that wouldn't normally be spoken. We call them the 'anthems'. I'm independent, I want a man that can pay my bills(pay my telephone bills), and he will have to get to the left if he does wrong. (How many of you are going to catch that?)(i-n-d-e-p-e-n-d-e-n-t...I was just making sure I spelled that right, lol.)By the way, I was joking, I want a man that can at least pay his own bills.
I don't want to lose sight of your point, so I will say it now...it's okay to want who you want and don't hate on the next woman for her choice in a mate. No woman should lower her standards because of her "friends".
Let's put this in perspective first. If Keisha has or is getting her stuff together then she can want these things of a man. However, if Amanda knows Keisha is jobless, has no education or no desire to get one, and rides the bus, then she should grunt and moan. What?
Anyway, I personally believe that a woman should have all types of...well, nevermind. ;-)Until he puts a ring on it...I'm just sayin'.
This blog leads to many different directions.
What do the lonely do at Christmas? We spend time with our families, children, and such. Then go to the club and get wasted with other lonely people. This way, by the time we make it home we just fall asleep. Did I say, "we"? I mean...they.
Somebody understands me. Love yourself and get it together. As a matter of fact Keisha does have it together; full circle. But she felt a bit of shame in revealing what she truly wants which compelled me to write the blog. I hope your reading this Keisha and feeling the support.
BTW, I did catch that; clever.
OK lonely hearts, don't drink and drive. Call one of your married friends to come get you. They aren't doing anything and will be happy to get out of the house. Let me call some folks and setup my designated driver car pool right now. I hate doing things at the last minute. Thanks Tonya B
Are you sure this is your first blog? Very good sis, splendid indeed!
